We have recently visited a home in Matua, Tauranga to look at a Panasonic floor console heat pump that was making a “whining noise” from the indoor unit. It Located in the lounge of an older home with timber floors, the noise got louder as the fan speed increased. It was clear that the fan motor was at fault. Having identified the problem, we ordered the replacement part and returned another day to install it.

When called out for heat pump repairs, we first make an assessment of the overall age and condition of the unit. This can influence our recommendation of either a repair or replacement. In this case, we estimated that the floor console heat pump was 10 years old. However, due to the unit being in reasonable condition we felt it worthwhile to repair it, so to give it some more life.

The fan motor was in fact a bit tricky to replace, because it was located behind the casing and coil. It took our technician a few hours to complete this heat pump repair. Once it was done, the motor was very quiet once again.
